Sooraj Barjatya reveals that competition suffocates originality.

It is common knowledge that in recent years, films are released on OTT platforms shortly after their theatrical release. The film remains on the platform indefinitely, and it is also evident that several films perform well on these platforms. Given the abundance of films available on these platforms, films are frequently under pressure to compete. When asked about the type of competition on OTT and his strategy for competing with this massive encyclopaedia of movies, veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya responded calmly.

Sooraj Barjatya said of the OTT competition, “Main pressure nahi leta hoon because aap competition mein jayenge toh originality nahi de payenge.” Sincerity is something that everyone has. Aap achhi kahani le jismein nau ras ho, aap apni kahani ko justify karein. Agar kahani demand karti hai ki crore rupaiyee kharch karne hai toh kariye, aur apni kahani ko justify kariye. Aur agar aap competition karte hai aur kahani justify nhi karte tab ye nainsaafi hogi. (I don’t put myself under any pressure because if we continue to think about competition, we won’t be able to provide you with originality. What we require is complete honesty. Take a good story that includes all nine rasas and make sure you justify it. If your story requires a big budget film worth crores of rupees, go ahead and do it because everything is fair as long as you can justify the story. It would be morally wrong if you entered the competition race.)”

Sooraj Barjatya is preparing to release Uunchai, a film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani as well as Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Parineeti Chopra. The film Uunchai will be released on November 11th.
